Pecan nut is known as one of the noble species of walnut. It looks like a walnut, but has no inner walls and has a richer chemical composition. It grows naturally in the forests of North America. Grown in the Caucasus, rarely in Ukraine and Central Asia.
Strong-growing pecan variety and introduced varieties are common in Georgia: Major, Thomas, Siuxes, Schlei, Frotscher, Stewart.
Recently, the active cultivation of walnut orchards has aroused demand for pecans, despite the demand, the cultivation of commercial pecans has not yet begun. The reason for this may be that the project "Implement the Future" does not finance the cultivation of the Pecan Commercial orchard.
The cost of unshelled pecans in the local market is in the range of 4-7 GEL, while pecan kernel cost 10-15 GEL.
As for the world market, world production of pecans has reached more than 108,000 tons in recent years, while its consumption has increased by 59% in the last ten years. The products are mainly produced in the USA and Mexico.
